A Missive from Their Highnesses of Æthelmearc Regarding Crown Tournament:
Unto the Noble Populace of Sylvan Æthelmearc, do Their Royal Highnesses Oliver and Grainne send warm greetings!
As We prepare for Our Coronation, We must look toward the future of Our beloved Kingdom. The time approaches to call forth those who would vie for the honor and burden of the Sylvan Thrones. We therefore invite all who would seek to serve Æthelmearc as Our Heirs to declare their intent and prepare to stand in the Crown Tournament, where it shall be determined those who will next bear the Crowns.
Let it be known that this is not merely a contest of arms, but a calling to service.
Those who would enter this noble endeavor should be prepared to demonstrate not only skill upon the field, but also a deep and abiding commitment to the Kingdom and its people. To that end, We set forth the following expectations for all who would vie:
- Participation in the Kingdom: Both combatants and their consorts shall have attended no fewer than five events within Æthelmearc in the twelve months preceding the Tournament.
- Inspiration: Each combatant shall be prepared to speak to the source of their inspiration, that all may understand the heart that guides their endeavor.
- Arms and Equipment: All participants shall present themselves in a manner befitting the Dream. No blatantly modern equipment shall be visible upon the field; all such items must be suitably concealed.
- Shields: Any combatant bearing a shield must be able to span both its length and width by an arm’s length.
- Heraldry: Combatants and consorts are expected to bear registered or in-process heraldry, that they may stand before the Kingdom as exemplars of its traditions.
As heirs to the Sylvan Thrones, the victors shall take upon themselves the great responsibility to travel throughout the Kingdom in service to its people. This is a path of honor, but also of sacrifice, and We urge all who consider it to do so with clear eyes and full hearts.
Letters of Intent must be received no later than April 2nd, 2026. A form is available to submit your letters digitally, it can be found here.
The tournament will be held at the Wellsville Rod & Gun Club in the Shire of Hartstone (Wellsville, NY) on May 2nd.
We encourage all who would answer this call to do so boldly, and to bring forth a display worthy of the Crown—let the field be filled with banners, with pageantry, and with the full measure of what makes Æthelmearc great.
We eagerly await the day when We shall witness such deeds.

Greetings Æthelmearc!
Our governing documents and the rules they contain are a living thing. We’re constantly updating them to reflect our current needs and values. It is part of our being a lively and prosperous organization.
Some changes take a long time to realize, and others happen so quickly it is difficult to keep track of everything that is happening. Sometimes we’re well-informed, and others we must adjust with almost no notice. That’s natural as we’re a club of volunteers after all.
On top of that, we have a complicated hierarchy of documents, each layer dictating rules for the layers below, with the Society’s Governing Documents at the top stretching down to the policies every local group and chartered guild uses to guide how they do things.
At our recent Curia Regis for Andreas and Kallista we had a spirited discussion concerning the possibility of adding a rule for cooking to ensure people are aware of the ingredients and can make good choices about what they eat at events. I was very happy to see so many people in agreement as to what needs to be done even though few agreed on how to implement it. But discussion is the first and most vital part of the process.
I will be revisiting that question soon in a public meeting once people have had time to consider the options.
Likewise, our Social Media office has had to make changes to how we run social media outlets to conform with new policies coming from Society, much in the same way as our Web ministry had to work on updating how our local group websites are run.
I realize such changes can be distressing butconsider that we’re doing this both to remain in compliance with our regulations and to maintain a consistency of service that adapts with the changing environment of the digital world. Once the rebuilding is done and the dust settles, we will be in a much better place.
And as a reminder, if you enjoy being part of keeping our rules up to date and making positive
changes in how we do things, please consider putting in for the position of Kingdom Seneschal!

Information from the Earl Marshal Regarding Marshal Authorizations and Marshal Warrants:
Greetings most Noble populace of the Sylvan Kingdom of Aethelmearc.
As the Summer winds down and we look forward to the cooler months, there are some changes in the works. I know ,”Oh no not changes!” These are good changes and will ease stress in the future. These changes are coming about due to continued issues with marshallet renewals and or updating authorization information. Typically, the Authorizations office and the Marshallet office are hunting for the same people from different platforms. This causes to much time looking for information, getting responses from people, and even lost cards cause time and frustration. So Mistress Amalie Reinhardt, Baroness Aemilia Soteria THL Deirdre Scot and myself got together and discussed options and processes to help everyone out.
I am happy to announce some exciting news from our Authorization Office. Our Authorization team in conjunction with our Kingdom Webminister have created and implemented an Authorization & Marshal card Portal.
What is this you say?
This portal will allow you to retrieve, print and save your authorization card to your phone or any device at any time. Any combatant and/or marshal will be able to pull this information.
Over the course of the next few weeks, all fighters and marshals will receive notification from either Baroness Aemelia Soteria or THL Deirdre Scot and receive their “fighter number”. The fighter number is a unique number assigned to each person. This number is what you will use to pull your information from the coming online database portal.
This enhancement to our Kingdom Authorization Process has resulted in some necessary changes.
- Authorization expires on the same date as your membership expires. This means there is only one date to remember. When your membership expires so does your marshal warrant and your authorization. If you are not a paid member, your authorization expires every year on your birthday.
- Your first physical card will be issued at the cost of the office, any requested duplicates can be requested for a small donation.
- There will still be a slight lag time between the time you enter the online authorization form and the amount of time it becomes available on the portal. The lag time should not be any longer than 5 days. Remember when this could be a month?
- The link to the portal will be found both on the Authorization Clerk Webpage and Kingdom Webpage no sooner than September 1, 2024. After September 1, the yellow cards will no longer be accepted by the MOL table after September 30th.. All cards should look like the below picture. (New cards have all auth forms, weapons and also all marshal forms your in)
So to sum up the pros- Auth and marshal info on one card.
- print your own cards,
- everything is tied to duration of membership to renew whether your membership is 1,2, or three years.
- you will receive a personal fighter number.
- All information will be on one database not 2.
We realize that there will be a small group of people that may need alternate assistance in obtaining the email of information. reach out to the Authorizations office for assistance.
