SUMMARY:Drachenwald/ Dun in Mara Event- Strawberry Raid III
DESCRIPTION:Additional notes on Wheelchair Accessibility: Site has gravel – fairly flat but not easy on feet or wheelchairs\nAdditional Notes on Alcohol Policy: Sensible consumption for personal use.\nAdditional Notes on Pet Policy: All animals must be on leash at all times\nAdditional Notes on Flames: Firepits only and no open/live flames in tents\nAdditional Notes on Weapons: SCA weapons only – Irish laws apply \nGreetings from Drachenwald! \nIf you have been considering a trip to Europe this summer\, why not start it by coming into the friendly airport of Dublin\, (which hosts US immigration for your return) and starting your Grand Tour at Strawberry Raid III May 30-June 3 at Sigginstown Castle. \nWe are excited to host the third annual event – every year we try to make some improvements (like having roofs on ruined buildings ????). This is a camping event and our local group Dun in Mara is gathering loaner tents\, but you can also book a nice airbnb or bnb for a bed nearby. \nWe are located 2 hours due south of Dublin with an easy bus ride from the airport\, and 15 minutes from Rosslare Harbour with ferries to France\, Spain and UK if you choose to leave the Emerald Isle. \nWe are excited to host the Royalty of Drachenwald\, and often get visitors from several other Kingdoms plus all over Drachenwald. Looking for 3 Kings this year to top last year’s count!

SUMMARY:Scarlet Guard Inn IX
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Shire of Hunter’s Home \nRoyal Progress: \n \nScarlet Guard Inn IX\nMay 31\, 2024\, 5pm\nJune 2\, 2024\, Noon\nFraternal Order of Eagles #965\n1050 Eagle’s Nest Road Brockway PA 15824 \nThe Shire of Hunter’s Home in cooperation with AEthelmearc’s Scarlet Guard is proudly reopening the Scarlet Guard Inn and hosting the Archery Festival the ninth time. There is truly no better site that is known in this great Kingdom of AEthelmearc where you will find more archery in one location. There is more space given here than at the fields of Pennsic. Find comfort and camaraderie at the Inn where there is food\, music\, games\, campfires\, and of course good friends. \nArchery:\nCome and enjoy more archery than you can shake a stick at. On average we have about a dozen different ranges to help keep you occupied and happy. On Friday evening we have a flight shoot and night shoot. During the day Saturday we have many novelty ranges and a few roving ranges so make sure to wear your walking shoes and bring plenty of arrows.\nIn addition to all the spectacular and creative ranges and shoots\, the Scarlet Guard has issued a challenge to all Shires\, Baronies\, and Cantons to send their best archer who is not a member of the Scarlet Guard to compete. To enter an individual must have a signed letter of entry issued by their group’s seneschal declaring you as their representative in the competition. They also ask the competitor to add a small item or token to the prize basket for the winner. In addition to the prize\, the victor will walk away with the annual competition banner to display throughout the year. Each year the winner’s and group’s name will be added to the banner to create a legacy of great archery and ultimate bragging rights (members of the Scarlet Guard are not allowed to enter). If you have any questions regarding the challenge please e-mail the archery coordinator Juan Miguel Cezar at scarletguard_clerk@aethelmearc.org. \nThe site is wet. SUMMARY:St. Swithin’s Bog Three Day Event: 1066 The Year of the Conquest
DESCRIPTION:Royal Progress:    \n \nIt is January 6\, 1066. Edward the Confessor\, The King of England since 1042\, has just died. AND HE HAS NO HEIR. Duke William of Normandy has sworn that Edward promised the crown to him\, as Edward had spent most of his childhood in Normandy in exile from Cnut\, the Viking king who defeated his father and married his mother. However\, in Edward’s last moments\, he gave his blessing to the Witan (English councilmen to the king\, literally “wise men”) to select Harold Godwinson\, Earl of Wessex\, as the new King of England. \nMeanwhile\, Tostig Godwinson\, deposed Earl of Northumbria and brother of Harold\, has sworn revenge on his brother for being the one who deposed him for levying high taxes on his people. Tostig traveled to Norway and struck an alliance with King Harald Hardrada\, whom he convinced to invade England to once again rule as a Viking king and restore Tostig as the Earl of Northumbria. \nThis would set in motion events that would change our world forever. England would have a new society unlike which it has never seen before. The Viking Era in England\, which began in 793 C.E. at a raid of the Lindisfarne Abbey\, would come to an abrupt and bloody end. Englishmen who were once considered freemen would find themselves subjugated to their new Norman overlords. The language you are currently reading would not look the way that it does if 1066 ended differently. \nAt this year’s St. Swithin’s Bog Three Day Event\, we will celebrate this monumental year with Heavy Weapons\, Rapier\, Youth Fighting\, Thrown Weapons and Archery\, many of which will have a Saxon/Viking/Norman flavor! The heavy weapon fighting will use the three major battles in that year (The Battle of Fulford\, the Battle of Stamford Bridge\, and the Battle of Hastings) as inspiration for the scenarios. The Battle of Stamford Bridge (famous for the lone Viking who defended a bridge against dozens of Saxons) will be our feature tournament\, where the bravest of warriors will have their chance to see how long they can last on the bridge against the other fighters! Fighters are encouraged but not required to use Conquest-era weapons and armor. The archery field will include special targets with a Norman and Saxon theme. \nThe feast will be made with mostly period materials\, but will be sure not to disappoint our modern palettes! The hall will be adorned with images of The Bayeux Tapestry\, a Norman work of art that depicts the invasion and defeat of Harold from William’s perspective. Historical poster boards will be displayed in the hall as well\, to provide basic information on what life was like in England in 1066. The theme for the Iron Scribe will follow the event theme\, so better brush up on your early medieval history! Brewers will be encouraged to brew typical libations of the era\, including mead and ale. \nLOCATION:\nOur site is the New Germany Grove Hall\, 1635 New Germany Road\, Summerhill\, PA 15958. Site will open on Friday\, July 12th at 5:00pm and close Sunday\, July 14th at 12:00pm. There is space for camping.
