SUMMARY:Agincourt XV
DESCRIPTION:Royal Progress: \n \nAgincourt XV\n28 October 2023 \n“This story shall the good man teach his son;\nAnd Crispin Crispian shall ne’er go by\,\nFrom this day to the ending of the world\,\nBut we in it shall be rememberèd—\nWe few\, we happy few\, we band of brothers;\nFor he to-day that sheds his blood with me\nShall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile\,\nThis day shall gentle his condition;\nAnd gentlemen in England now a-bed\nShall think themselves accurs’d they were not here\,\nAnd hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks\nThat fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day.”\n~Shakespeare\, Henry V \nNobles! Welcome Back!! The feast of St. Crispin is upon us and the Barony Marche of the Debatable Lands wishes you to celebrate with us at the Fifteenth Agincourt event! \nAgincourt will be held at Camp Lutherlyn\, 500 Lutherlyn Ln\, Butler\, PA 16001. The site will open at 9:00 a.m. Saturday 28 October 2023 and close at 9:00 p.m. \nAgincourt returns after a one-year hiatus\, and to celebrate its return\, we are asking for a display of arms. Bring your banners\, wear your heraldic clothing\, arrive in your heraldic finery or bearing your arms on your shield! We will be displaying this in the outdoor pavilion where we will also be hosting court. \nHeavy Weapons Combatants! Take the field and fight the battles as your ancestors did on this day. Noble combat shall rule the day until your arms ache from your weapons. What would Agincourt be without archery? Target archers get your bows! We have plans\, just for you! \nArchery\nLady Elinor Walden will be coordinating our Archery shoot that will be a French vs English competition shoot with a focus on period targets where those competing will pick the side they’re shooting for and would shoot a variety of targets for cumulative points. \nThrown Weapons Kingdom Champion Tournament\nLady Nea Kimball will be holding a tournament to decide the next Kingdom Thrown Weapons Champion. \nFencing – Lucky Coin 13 for the Tournament of Garnet and Steel\nThere will be a tournament to decide the recipient of coin 13 for the Tournament of Garnet and Steel! Fighters are encouraged to look up both manuals available for free on Wikitenauer – \nGeorge Silver – https://wiktenauer.com/wiki/George_Silver\nCaptain Peloquin – https://wiktenauer.com/wiki/Captain_Peloquin\nBe prepared to explain their interpretation and which portions of the manuals they are going to present during the tournament.\nThe tournament format will be based on the numbers for the day.\nAfter the fencing tournament\, there will be a Cut and Thrust tournament later in the day.\nTavern Brawl\nAnd never fear\, we WILL be having our famous Tavern Brawl\, please consider bringing a parrying item. In previous years\, we’ve seen giant turkey legs\, mugs etc. Be creative as there will be a prize for the best tavern themed parrying item!! \nA Tourney at Agincourt\nSirs Guillaume le Noir du Bordeaux and Oliver Sutton will be holding a tournament for Heavy Weapons fighters. \nA&S At Agincourt\nTHLady Lisabetta de Rossi presents two opportunities to show our King\, Queen and the populace the talent and skill we are known to possess. There will be a populace vote for both A&S displays\, and prizes presented at evening court. \nFirst\, please consider displaying any type of project you wish to flaunt\, regardless of the state of completion! \nSecond\, let us keep the largess stores full and varied as our King and Queen bestow favors across the land. In keeping with Agincourt\, the theme is: \nIt’s a Parti Party! Create and present your best largess in at least two primary color tones. Is it checky? Is it chevron? Is it French? Is it English? SUMMARY:Japanese Iris Festival and Baronial Equestrian Champs
DESCRIPTION:Royal Progress: \n \nAdditional notes on Wheelchair Accessibility: There are handicap accessible restrooms.\nAdditional Notes on Alcohol Policy: Alcohol permitted\, but not glass allowed\nAdditional Notes on Pet Policy: All dogs must be on leash at all times.\nAdditional Notes on Flames: There are grills at the site and only flames must be in grills or propane stoves \nIn less than 3 months the Barony Marche of the Debatable Lands will host its second Japanese Iris Festival. “What is that?” you may ask. In Japan it is also called Tango no Sekku or Ayame no hi and was one of the five festival held at the Japanese imperial court. Originally it was on the fifth day of the fifth month or moon in the Chinese lunar calendar. When Japan switched to the Gregorian calendar the date was set to May 5th. Our festival is in early June due to the busy May calendar. Other countries in Asia have a similar festival on the same day. The festival marks the beginning of summer rainy season. Formerly the festival was known as Boys’ Day and the corresponding Girls’ Day was March 3th. After World War II\, the two holidays were combined to be Children’s Day and was renamed to Kodomo no Hi. You will typically see carp-shaped banner displayed\, one for each child. Treats that are traditional on this day are rice cakes called mochi rapped in oak leaves called kashiwa. The kashiwa-mochi are filled with red bean paste. Another traditional treat is chimaki\, which is a sweet rice paste wrapped in an iris or bamboo leaf. \nOur festival will include demonstrations and classes of various Japanese arts and skills. The demonstrations and classes include taiko drumming\, shibori make-and-take gift cloths\, kumihimo\, and tea ceremony. All are welcome to come watch and learn. If you would like to teach a class\, especially about Japanese things or run a demo\, use the following link to sign-up and provide information about your class. https://forms.gle/5Bnmw25aygpWDCtw6. If you have questions about teaching or running a demo\, please contact the class coordinator Gwendolyn the Graceful\, gwenlygrace@gmail.com. An event schedule and class schedule will be posted closer to the event. \nThe traditional festival name Tango no Sekku has meaning in Japanese. Tan means beginning and go is the simified character for horse. Horse is the Chinese zodiac sign for the fifth month. Sekku means festival. So the basic translation would be first day of horse month festival. But in Japanese go is the word for five so the double meaning of go means it’s the fifth day of the horse month. Well then\, horses are the perfect addition to the Iris festival. We will be holding a the Baronial Equestrian Champs for the riders and the horses. This will include the garb potion of the competition. Riders are encouraged to assemble an apppropriate medieval Japanese equestrian outfit. In addition to the Baronial Equestrian Champs\, there will be a number of games. Come watch the horsing around. There will also be a joust\, weather permitting. Equestrians must contact THLady Gesa von Wellenstein at gwellenstein@yahoo.com or by phone at (724) 991-0917 to discuss equine logistics. \nThe event will be held on Saturday\, June 10th\, from 9 am to 7 pm at the Horse Arena at Bradys Run Park\, 121 Bradys Run Road\, Beaver Falls\, PA\, 15010. The autocrat for this event is Hara Kikumatsu\, mka Sharon Booth\, 1105 Shady Avenue\, Pittsburgh\, PA 15232. The email address is sbooth@sbooth.net\, phone 412-441-1607. SUMMARY:Scarlet Guard Inn VIII
DESCRIPTION:Scarlet Guard Inn VIII\nJune 2\, 2023\, 3pm\nJune 4\, 2023\, 3pm\nFraternal Order of Eagles #965\n1050 Eagle’s Nest Road Brockway PA 15824 \nThe Shire of Hunter’s Home is reestablishing The Scarlett Guard Inn Archery Festival. This will be the first time our Shire and the Scarlet Guard have teamed up to bring you the premier archery event of the year. Nowhere else in this great Kingdom of AEthelmearc will you find more archery in one location\, and we daresay not even at Pennsic. As well as archery there is food\, camping\, music\, games\, campfires\, and of course good friends. \nArchery:\nCome and enjoy more archery than you can shake a stick at. On average we have about a dozen different ranges to help keep you occupied and happy. On Friday evening we have a flight shoot and night shoot. During the day Saturday we have many novelty ranges and a few roving ranges so make sure to wear your walking shoes and bring plenty of arrows.\nIn addition to all the spectacular and creative ranges and shoots\, the Scarlet Guard has issued a challenge to all Shires\, Baronies\, and Cantons to send their best archer to compete. To enter an individual must have a signed letter of entry issued by their group’s seneschal declaring you as their representative in the competition. They also ask the competitor to add a small item or token to the prize basket for the winner. In addition to the prize\, the victor will walk away with the annual competition banner to display throughout the year. Each year the winner’s and group’s name will be added to the banner to create a legacy of great archery and ultimate bragging rights (members of the Scarlet Guard are not allowed to enter). If you have any questions regarding the challenge please e-mail the archery coordinator Juan Miguel Cezar at scarletguard_clerk@aethelmearc.org. \nNotes:\nYour equipment will need to be inspected before you can shoot. If you are day tripping make sure to be there early enough to get it out of the way so you and our inspectors can enjoy a full day’s activities. Inspections are at the small building near the pavilion.\nDon’t forget sunscreen and tick/bug spray\, this is an outdoor event and some ranges take you through deep woods. \nThrown Weapons:\nSince there will already be plenty of arrows flying through the air we might as well set up some thrown weapons butts too. Bring your axes and knives\, maybe a spear or two and give them a throw. \nMerchants:\nHunters Home invites merchants to set up their wares at no additional charge. We had many great items for sale at our last event. \nClasses:\nPlease contact Maggie Rue firewaterpro@gmail.com if you are interested in teaching something. \nCamping:\nCamping is free! Please feel free to stay Friday and Saturday night. There is plenty of camping space and some already have regular spots but it is first come first serve. There is space for RVs but it is limited and there are no hookups and no dumping allowed\, please contact the autocrat ahead of time. Enjoy your own campfire or be sociable and join us at the common fire. We will have the main fire provided for socializing\, feel free to join in front of the pavilion or have your own fire. But please leave the site as you found it. \nThe Tavern:\nThe Food: There will be no feast at this event\, however there will be a modest sideboard open through the day on Saturday in the tavern. \nThe Games:\nWant to compete off the field as well? Two gaming tables will be set aside in the tavern with an assortment of games to choose from. We welcome any additions. \nThe Bards:\nWe are also inviting the bards of the kingdom to come share their talents. Please add to the atmosphere and join us in the tavern and around the common fire day and night! \nhttp://huntershome.aethelmearc.org/scarlet-guard-inn/\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/196568783197475 \nThe site is discreetly wet.
