SUMMARY:Knights and Round Tables
DESCRIPTION:Before they were Laurels\, peers of the arts had to pick up a pen. Before they charged forth a Knight or a Master of Defense\, martial peers had to pick up a sword. In that spirit does the Shire of Misty Highlands call all to its lands to continue the cycle of sharing knowledge with the populace of these Sylvan Lands!\nKnights and Round Tables returns after a long hiatus to encourage those of any age and experience to learn something new. Classes will be offered to introduce people to the arts that glorify our lands\, and martial skills will be shared\, with a focus on teaching those looking to travel that path.\nAnd\, to honor those beginning their journey in the Society\, a tournament will be held on the day\, where the junior combatants will receive honors akin to those who fight for the crown.\nThe event will return after a decade on May 10 with troll opening at 9 AM and the site closing at 6. We will gather at Battler’s Knob\, the former site of Alderson Broaddus University\, 101 College Hill Road\, Philippi\, WV 26416.\nEntrance to the site\, including a light dayboard is $10 for members\, and $20 for non-members. Those under 18 are welcome as guests of the Shire. Make checks payable to “SCA West Virginia Inc – Shire of Misty Highlands”\nThe autocrats for the day are Baron Arias Beltran del Valle\, mka Alex Hines\, 301 Arthur Ave. #1\, Clarksburg\, WV 26301 (724) 944-6547 and Husfreyja Aine ny Allane\, mka Lori McKinney\, 2213 Nilan Road\, Point Marion\, PA 15474 (304) 640-6887.\nDIRECTIONS: Make your best route to WV Exit 115 on Interstate 79. Travel east on WV Route 20 towards Philippi for about 4 miles\, then bear left onto WV Route 57 for another 11 miles\, following signs for the city. Turn left onto US Route 119 for approximately three miles\, then turn left on John Street and immediately left again to arrive at Battler’s Knob.

SUMMARY:The Barony of St. Swithin’s Bog 3-Day Event: The Scottish War of Independence
DESCRIPTION:Royal Progress: \nFàilte gu St. Swithin’s Bog! (Welcome to St. Swithin’s Bog!). It is the turn of the 13th century\, and there is unrest in Scotland. Alexander III of House Dunkeld has died\, and his sole surviving descendant Margaret the “Maid of Norway” has also died enroute to Scotland. The succession is now in crisis! John Balliol has attempted to claim the throne\, being endorsed by Edward I the “Longshanks” of England. But Balliol has proven weak\, and since he swore allegiance to England\, Edward I has decided to annex Scotland for himself! But the Scots were not content and rose up against this English king. First under the leadership of William Wallace and Andrew Moray\, then under John Comyn. Now\, Robert the Bruce has killed his rival Comyn and been crowned King of Scotland and Edward of England is marching against him! Arm yourselves\, for the fate of Scotland rests in your hands! SUMMARY:Upstate Renaissance Faire
DESCRIPTION:Autocrat Notes: This is a Demonstration event where your participation is needed. So if committed to coming is an issue\, please do not put your name forward for a pass if you have the ‘maybe I’ll attend.’ thinking. That pass can go to someone who will attend. I understand that sometimes it’s unavoidable. But I do not wish to have what happened last year where 30+ people messaged me the day of and backed out. \nUnto the Noble and Glorious Populace of Æthelmearc\, does Riddari Gwydeon ap Arden send warm and heartfelt greetings. \nLike last year and the year before the Upstate Renaissance Faire has asked for the SCA to be present once again. The call for Heavies\, and Fencers\, and Artisans goes out to you all. There will be a place to camp for those distant travelers. To get in for free please contact myself on FB or email gwydeonaparden@hotmail.com for your performers pass. We have 4 slots available for Vendors. So please if you are a vendor and wish to sell your wares\, don’t hesitate to put in an application inquire first before doing so so that I have the correct number. If you wish to have a weekend of fun. By all means join us. You won’t be disappointed \nSemper Servus\nRiddari Gwydeon ap Arden MIC and Autocrat of the Upstate Renaissance Faire

If you plan to join us\, even if you don’t pre register\, please email her and include Memento Mori in the subject line (this is so (our head cook) can more accurately estimate what she needs to prepare for the sideboard.) Speaking about the sideboard\, the days menu will be prepared by THL Sorcha Mackenzie and will include: Meats: Mummy dogs (hot dogs in crescent rolls)-GF option as well. – -Beef and lentil stew – Vegetarian: Lentil soup- Both can be made gluten free\nFruit spread: Oranges/mandrins-Melons-Grapes-Apples\nSweets: Honey cakes for Cerberus – Gf version available-Pom/choc chip muffins (gluten free option available) – Shortbread “coins” for the ferryman\nBasics: Bread selection (confirming a GF option- standby) – Cheese – Pickles – Meat tray – Jam for bread – flavors TBD\nDrinks: Water and hot tea options\nI will be acting as autocrat and I can be reached via email at siraengus@zoominternet.net This is a dry site\, so please refrain from bringing any alcoholic beverages. Additional details (including 3 videos that give you a virtual tour of the site) can be found on the Sunderoak website at https://sunderoak.aethelmearc.org/EventsMomentoMori.html \nThis idea for this event came from my belief that even though our bodies are fragile and our time on this earth is limited\, we are not truly gone until we have passed from the memories of those we leave behind.\nThe best way to keep our friends in the forefront of our minds is through wordfame. Stories\, songs\, sharing something they taught us\, or simply just listening to the stories told round the fire. All these stories serve to refresh our memories or create new ones. In my mind\, that keeps them alive in some small way.\nI struggled with the theme of this event because I did not want it to turn dark and depressing\, quite the opposite\, my hope for the day is that we celebrate the lives of those that have gone before us. To that end\, I am compiling a memory board containing photos of our fallen friends which will be displayed in the main hall. If you want me to include someone\, email me a photo at siraengus@zoominternet.net\nIt is my hope that wordfame will be spread thru story and song\, on the lysts as we remember the archers\, fencers & fighters\, and tell the “No sh#t there we were…” stories.\nActivities for the day include bardic opportunities throughout the day\, a double elimination heavy tournament followed by by a bear pit run by Sir Rouland \, a fencing tournament run by Master Corwin\, target archery run by Master Juan Miguel. And Thrown Waepons run by Mistress Rosheen and Baron Gunther. As this is a Royal progress event\, Their Majesties will hold court at Their leisure.\nIf there is anything me or my staff can do please reach out and let us know!
