We will be at Camp Lutherlyn\, 500 Lutherlyn Ln.\, Butler PA 16001. Fees for the day are $15 for members\, $10 children 5-17 years old and children under 5 are free. If you plan to join us\, even if you don’t pre register\, please email her and include Memento Mori in the subject line (this is so (our head cook) can more accurately estimate what she needs to prepare for the sideboard.) Speaking about the sideboard\, the days menu will be prepared by THL Sorcha Mackenzie and will include: Meats: Mummy dogs (hot dogs in crescent rolls)-GF option as well. – -Beef and lentil stew – Vegetarian: Lentil soup- Both can be made gluten free\nFruit spread: Oranges/mandrins-Melons-Grapes-Apples\nSweets: Honey cakes for Cerberus – Gf version available-Pom/choc chip muffins (gluten free option available) – Shortbread “coins” for the ferryman\nBasics: Bread selection (confirming a GF option- standby) – Cheese – Pickles – Meat tray – Jam for bread – flavors TBD\nDrinks: Water and hot tea options\nI will be acting as autocrat and I can be reached via email at siraengus@zoominternet.net This is a dry site\, so please refrain from bringing any alcoholic beverages. Additional details (including 3 videos that give you a virtual tour of the site) can be found on the Sunderoak website at https://sunderoak.aethelmearc.org/EventsMomentoMori.html \nThis idea for this event came from my belief that even though our bodies are fragile and our time on this earth is limited\, we are not truly gone until we have passed from the memories of those we leave behind.\nThe best way to keep our friends in the forefront of our minds is through wordfame. Stories\, songs\, sharing something they taught us\, or simply just listening to the stories told round the fire. All these stories serve to refresh our memories or create new ones. In my mind\, that keeps them alive in some small way.\nI struggled with the theme of this event because I did not want it to turn dark and depressing\, quite the opposite\, my hope for the day is that we celebrate the lives of those that have gone before us. To that end\, I am compiling a memory board containing photos of our fallen friends which will be displayed in the main hall. If you want me to include someone\, email me a photo at siraengus@zoominternet.net\nIt is my hope that wordfame will be spread thru story and song\, on the lysts as we remember the archers\, fencers & fighters\, and tell the “No sh#t there we were…” stories.\nActivities for the day include bardic opportunities throughout the day\, a double elimination heavy tournament followed by by a bear pit run by Sir Rouland \, a fencing tournament run by Master Corwin\, target archery run by Master Juan Miguel. And Thrown Waepons run by Mistress Rosheen and Baron Gunther. As this is a Royal progress event\, Their Majesties will hold court at Their leisure.\nIf there is anything me or my staff can do please reach out and let us know!

SUMMARY:Scarlet Guard Inn X
DESCRIPTION:Royal Progress: \nShire of Hunters Home\nJune 6\, 2025\, 3pm\nJune 8\, 2025\, 1pm\nFraternal Order of Eagles #965\n1050 Eagle’s Nest Road Brockway PA 15824 \nFor this\, the tenth iteration of our event\, we will see the return of the Iron Tassel challenge. To commemorate this being the 10th Scarlet Guard Inn\, and since completing the challenge is a Herculean feat\, the theme for Saturday’s shooting will be The “10” Labors of Hercules\, which will of course actually be 12 Labors. These Labors will include three walkthrough ranges (one of which will be Archery Golf)\, a clout range\, and a plethora of novelty targets. Still on theme\, The Iron Tassel will include one other task. Since Hercules had to return to King Eurystheus between each Labor\, it has been decided that archers must also make a return to Royalty… in the form of completing a Royal Round at the practice range. The 12 Labors plus this Royal Round will comprise the entirety of the Iron Tassel Challenge. \nThose familiar with the myth may recall that Hercules was forced to do 12 instead of 10 Labors because two of his feats were disqualified; one because he had help\, and the other because he was otherwise paid for it. In keeping with that theme\, we will be offering an opportunity to “get back” some of those feats. Pre-registering for the event will count as “paying back” the payment\, and earn you a Labor token (which you will receive at Troll when you check-in). To return the “help\,” Juan Miguel will be accepting charitable donations for cancer research (the specific charity is tbd\, we will update this blurb once it is decided)\, and a donation of $5 or more will also earn you a Labor token. An archer may trade in up to two Labor tokens at the completion of the Labors in order to count as credit towards the Iron Tassel. It takes one token to be excused from the “standing” targets\, but two tokens to be excused from a walkthrough. Unspent tokens are yours to keep as souvenirs. \nScarlet Guard Challenge!\nAfter the Iron Tassel / 12 Labors\, the Scarlet Guard Challenge will once again be held. Any group with a seneschal may send a representative\, as long as that representative is not a member of the Scarlet Guard or equivalent order. Take notice that there are new requirements if you desire to compete this year as your group’s Representative/Champion in the Scarlet Guard Challenge. We are asking that you have your group’s Seneschal contact Scarlet Guard Member\, Baroness Thalia Papillon at v_girl15@hotmail.com\, with the kingdom you hail from\, the name of the local group you are representing\, the name of the group’s Seneschal\, and your SCA name to add to the roster. The Challenge Registration will close on Wednesday\, June 4th\, 2025\, to allow time to organize our paperwork for the event.\nFor all those archers participating in the challenge please bring a gift for the Winner’s basket to help celebrate their accomplishments and joy of the day’s events. Please bring the gift and your letter of support from your group’s Seneschal and present it to one of the following: Scarlet Guard Members Baroness Thalia Papillon or THL Máirin Ó Nialláin\, or previous Champion of the Scarlet Guard Challenge\, Baroness Marina Aragones de Navarra\, no later than 12 o’clock Noon on Saturday\, June 7th\, 2025\, the day of the Challenge. This will allow us to verify entries and begin the challenge in a timely manner.\nThe Challenge will begin promptly at the scheduled time that is published\, and letters of support that do not match our registration records OR cannot be verified will not be accepted at that time.\nWe are looking forward to seeing you all there in the very near future. \nArchers can also look forward to Friday evening\, which boasts the Flight Shoot (take advantage of our large field and see just how far we can fling our arrows) as well as the Night Shoot (try to hit glow-in-the-dark targets when the only light is\, well\, the targets).\nFor any questions about the Iron Tassel Challenge\, contact Juan Miguel (Terry Belles). \nWe have exciting news for this year’s Inn! As many of you know\, Aethelmearc now knows who shall be our three Premiers for the new Order of the Mark. All three will be elevated during the evening court\, and will be sitting vigil throughout the day. All 3 vigils will be held at the same location\, but in the tradition of the other martial Peerages\, there will a chance to partake of the martial activity with each candidate. \nThose who wish to speak with Rosalia about her elevation are invited to learn more about siege\, and if you wish to shoot with her\, there will be a ballista and range available! \nGodzimir has issued a similar invitation. Stop by his vigil tent and you will have the chance to not only shoot the breeze with him\, but a few arrows as well. Bring your own bow and arrows if you have them\, but fear not\, he has offered loaner gear if needed! \nMorien has also asked not just for advice\, congratulations\, and well wishes\, but also for those who are interested to learn more about combat archery to seek him out during his vigil. Bring your armor and any combat archery equipment you can\, but there will also be loaner gear for those wishing to try for the first time. Master Morien has also offered to conduct authorizations! \nIn addition to sharing his martial talents during his vigil\, Master Morien also wishes to share his bardic talents. He invites anyone who wishes to enjoy or\, better yet\, partake of the bardic arts to join him in a bardic circle around the bonfire each evening\, starting at 8pm. \nNotes:\nYour equipment will need to be inspected before you can shoot. If you are day tripping make sure to be there early enough to get it out of the way so you and our inspectors can enjoy a full day’s activities. Inspections are at the small building near the pavilion.\nDon’t forget sunscreen and tick/bug spray\, this is an outdoor event and some ranges take you through deep woods. \nThrown Weapons:\nSince there will already be plenty of arrows flying through the air we might as well set up some thrown weapons butts too. Bring your axes and knives\, maybe a spear or two and give them a throw. \nMerchants:\nHunters Home invites merchants to set up their wares at no additional charge. We had many great items for sale at our last event. Please inform the autocrat so that we can reserve a space for you. \nCamping:\nCamping is free! Please feel free to stay Friday and Saturday night. There is plenty of camping space and some already have regular spots but it is first come first serve. There is space for RVs but it is limited and there are no hookups and no dumping allowed\, please contact the autocrat ahead of time. Enjoy your own campfire or be sociable and join us at the common fire. We will have the main fire provided for socializing\, feel free to join in front of the pavilion or have your own fire. But please leave the site as you found it. \nThe Tavern:\nThe Food: There will be no feast at this event\, however there will be a modest sideboard open Friday evening and throughout the day on Saturday in the tavern.\nThe Games:\nWant to compete off the field as well? Two gaming tables will be set aside in the tavern with an assortment of games to choose from. We welcome any additions.\nThe Bards:\nWe always invite the bards of the kingdom to come share their talents. Please add to the atmosphere and join us in the tavern and around the common fire day and night!\nThe site is discreetly wet. Pets Welcome On Leash and Well Behaved\, clean up after your animal. \nAdult Event Registration is $30\,\nAdult Member Discount Event Registration is $20\,\nChildren 6-17: $5\,\nChildren 5 and under: Free.\nMake checks payable to SCA-PA\, Inc. – Shire of Hunters Home. Reservations may be sent to the Autocrat.\nAUTOCRAT for this event will be Thorfinnr y Elsfiord (Tod Elford) PO Box 1\, Utica\, PA 16362\, 814-720-9017\, thorfinnr.elsfiord@gmail.com\nCO-AUTOCRAT is Alrekr Bergsson (David Bessler) bessler128@gmail.com

SUMMARY:St. Swithin’s Bog Three Day Event: 1066 The Year of the Conquest
DESCRIPTION:Royal Progress:    \n \nIt is January 6\, 1066. Edward the Confessor\, The King of England since 1042\, has just died. AND HE HAS NO HEIR. Duke William of Normandy has sworn that Edward promised the crown to him\, as Edward had spent most of his childhood in Normandy in exile from Cnut\, the Viking king who defeated his father and married his mother. However\, in Edward’s last moments\, he gave his blessing to the Witan (English councilmen to the king\, literally “wise men”) to select Harold Godwinson\, Earl of Wessex\, as the new King of England. \nMeanwhile\, Tostig Godwinson\, deposed Earl of Northumbria and brother of Harold\, has sworn revenge on his brother for being the one who deposed him for levying high taxes on his people. Tostig traveled to Norway and struck an alliance with King Harald Hardrada\, whom he convinced to invade England to once again rule as a Viking king and restore Tostig as the Earl of Northumbria. \nThis would set in motion events that would change our world forever. England would have a new society unlike which it has never seen before. The Viking Era in England\, which began in 793 C.E. at a raid of the Lindisfarne Abbey\, would come to an abrupt and bloody end. Englishmen who were once considered freemen would find themselves subjugated to their new Norman overlords. The language you are currently reading would not look the way that it does if 1066 ended differently. \nAt this year’s St. Swithin’s Bog Three Day Event\, we will celebrate this monumental year with Heavy Weapons\, Rapier\, Youth Fighting\, Thrown Weapons and Archery\, many of which will have a Saxon/Viking/Norman flavor! The heavy weapon fighting will use the three major battles in that year (The Battle of Fulford\, the Battle of Stamford Bridge\, and the Battle of Hastings) as inspiration for the scenarios. The Battle of Stamford Bridge (famous for the lone Viking who defended a bridge against dozens of Saxons) will be our feature tournament\, where the bravest of warriors will have their chance to see how long they can last on the bridge against the other fighters! Fighters are encouraged but not required to use Conquest-era weapons and armor. The archery field will include special targets with a Norman and Saxon theme. \nThe feast will be made with mostly period materials\, but will be sure not to disappoint our modern palettes! The hall will be adorned with images of The Bayeux Tapestry\, a Norman work of art that depicts the invasion and defeat of Harold from William’s perspective. Historical poster boards will be displayed in the hall as well\, to provide basic information on what life was like in England in 1066. The theme for the Iron Scribe will follow the event theme\, so better brush up on your early medieval history! Brewers will be encouraged to brew typical libations of the era\, including mead and ale. \nLOCATION:\nOur site is the New Germany Grove Hall\, 1635 New Germany Road\, Summerhill\, PA 15958. Site will open on Friday\, July 12th at 5:00pm and close Sunday\, July 14th at 12:00pm. There is space for camping.
