SUMMARY:Japanese Iris Festival and Iron Comet Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Additional Notes on Alcohol Policy: No glass bottles \nBring out your Japanese clothing and crafts. Brush up on your martial skills. The Debatable Lands is holding a Japanese Iris Festival and Iron Comet Challenge at the Barn in Old Economy Park. This is a Japanese themed event. The Iron Comet Challenge includes heavy fighting\, fencing\, thrown weapons\, and archery. It also includes an Arts and Sciences competition. All are welcome to compete in any tournament. Adults wishing to complete the challenge must compete in 3 of the 4 marshal activites\, but they must participate in the A&S competiton. Youth wishing to complete in the challenge can omit two martial activities\, but they must participate in the A&S competition.\nIn addition to the Iron Comet tournaments\, there will also be an Arts and Sciences display where you can show your craft\, but not complete. The medieval lawn games will also be running during the day for anyone who wants to play or watch. We are adding another treat as well. There will be an “Iron Apron” dessert competion. The organizer is Lady Arthes MacLeod. The Upstate Renaissance Faire\, held upon the grounds of Chenango in the town of Norwich\, hath sent forth a royal request. Having missed the presence of honored historical reenactors\, they invite the Society for Creative Anachronism to return for their 4th Annual gathering on August 29th & 30th\, 2026. \nThe Call to Arms: We summon the Heavies to take the field\, the Rapier fighters to demonstrate the art of fence\, and the Cut & Thrust champions to show their skill. \nCall for Artisans: Bring thy best works of Arts & Sciences to display within our encampment\, demonstrating the beauty of the Middle Ages. \nCamp and Revel: Space is provided for tents and pavilions for those travelers wishing to camp and partake in merriment throughout the weekend. \nFree Passage: Our friends at the Upstate Renaissance Faire offer FREE entry to the faire for those SCA members who demonstrate their skills. DESCRIPTION:Additional Notes on Flames: all flames are to be either in established fire pits on site or in raised braziers \nPlease join us for The Road to Rouen\, a late 14th-century focused camping event inspired by the Hundred Years’ War. Hosted by the Shire of Heronter\, this immersive event emphasizes period encampments\, martial activities\, archery\, Arts & Sciences\, and life on campaign in the late 1300s. Previous iterations of this event have drawn over 200 attendees\, and we look forward to welcoming returning and new participants alike. \nActivities will include Heavy Fighting\, Archery\, Arts & Sciences classes\, and period social activities. Additional classes and activities may be scheduled throughout the weekend. \nTroll will be open on Friday\, September 11\, from 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.\, and on Saturday\, September 12\, from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.\nThe site will close at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday\, September 13\, and all participants must be off site by that time. \nThe event will be held at Camp Timbercrest\, 1169 Moore Rd\, Randolph\, NY. The site offers primitive and semi-primitive camping\, indoor restroom and shower facilities\, open fields suitable for martial activities\, and an established archery range. Join us for a fun filled weekend of Equestrian\, Fighting\, Fencing\, Archery\, Thrown Weapons\, Bardic\, Children’s Activities\, and Arts and Sciences. Prizes will be awarded to the winner of each tournament held. Write down your wishes and hopes for the coming year and send them to the heavens as we celebrate the harvest season with the burning of a wickerman on Saturday night.
